For this process, you will need:

  1. Sub Box Enclosure
  2. Fibreglass resin
  3. Fibreglass matting
  4. Fibreglass tissue
  5. Mixing jug
  6. Body filler
  7. Paint brushes (lots of)
  8. Staple gun
  9. Fabric (I chose lycra for its stretchy qualities)
Right then, lets begin!

Step 1

Cut your fabric to an approximate size but leave plenty spare to trim off !

Making sure you have plenty of staples in your staple gun attach your fabric to the back of the bass box making sure theres no creases now stretch the fabric straight over the middle, pull it tight and staple it down to the front.

Next pull it to the sides and staple it down there, use as many staples as it takes to get the creases out, is a lot quicker and easier if you have lycra for this part as all the creases come out when it stretches and it is very stretchy, the pattern doesnt have to be as offensive as mine is but it WAS very cheap.

Step 2

Paint with fibreglass resin and leave to go hard.

Make sure you cover everything and dont be worried about putting too much on as you can see in pic its a good idea to put something down to stop the drips - I couldnt really be bothered !

Step 3

paint on fibreglass matting and tissue with resin and allow to set, do as many layers as you like (I chose one thick one)

Step 4

Cut a slot in the center of your fibreglass just big enough to slot a piece of MDF in, insert a piece of MDF that fits and draw a line around it so it doesnt stick out, cut round the line, make double sure it fits and then glue your center piece in place !

Now fibreglass over the top of it and hide the line, can be a good idea to paint some fibreglass round the center section and joins in the box to ensure its air tight.

Step 5

Mix 1 part fibreglass resin with roughly 3 to 5 parts body filler and appropriate hardener.

Coat the box with a thick coat of this (goes lumpy but very easy to sand!), the filler and resin mixture should be strong enough not to crack with heavy bass but should be as easy as filler alone to sand - also filler cant just be painted on as easily !
