For this process, you will need:

  1. Drill
  2. Tape measure
  3. Router
  4. Router Jig
  5. Straight router bit in small diameter
  6. Straight router bit in big diameter
  7. MDF
  8. Workbench or table of some sort
Right then, lets begin!

Step 1

Measure to the center of where you want your sub/speaker

Drill holes in the MDF for the router jig to sit in (not necessary but it can jump out if you dont !)

Measure to the center of where you want your sub/speaker

Step 2

Set the router at the correct depth and the jig at the right length (using small bit) unclamp the end bit of the router jig and slide out the metal bar until the router sits over the edge of the wood cut into the wood sliding the router back into the jig clamp it back down and cut your hole.

Set the correct depth Cut hole with the router

Step 3

Whilst admiring your perfect circles adjust the jig inwards and using a large router bit cut a recess (no more than half way) through the MDF it may be necessary to cut one than another just to the inside to widen the recess.

Adjust jig inwards Cut recess

Step 4

Drill into the inside of the circle and move the router into roughly the right position so that when you cut the middle out (using small router bit) you can get the router in, now cut the hole and all done, but do be careful not to destroy your workbench in the process !

Cut final hole

I cant really give any dimensions but I did these for 15 inch subs, the lip left at the edge and overall size is up to you really just the inside ledge needs to be thick enough to hold the weight of your speakers and wide enough for them to sit on, the gap round the sides and the thickness is untirely up to you.

Once you have these you are ready to make a sub box enclosure
