Well it was the first RSOC meet of the year and boy what a day it was, the weather was sure on our side being an (ex) ford boy I dragged myself out of bed at 6:30 to make the short trip to Santa Pod via maccy d’s for brekkie. Once all fuelled up we found ourselves parked and made our way to the track where the action was already kicking off. There were a lot of fords ranging from old school mark1 escorts to brand new focus RS’s plus a few other makes giving it all they’ve got up the ¼ mile.
.
We went up into the stands to get a good view of the start line and watched a few cars having a run seeing some people attempt burnouts to get some heat into the tyres and not doing a very good job. It was all quite sedate with times ranging from late 14’s to 20+ second runs for the morning session and mainly only standard cars running.
We soon found ourselves getting numb bums and a tad hungry so set off for another refuel ... Food and alcoholic refreshment and took a stroll around all the stands but there wasn’t as many stands as previous times and not a scantily glad girl in site but plenty of companies showing off all manner of shiny items for under the bonnet.
Then as the cooler air of the afternoon came along the big boys started coming out to play where the times kept coming down. Unfortunately there were a few retirements and as with most cossie’s it was the rear diff that packed up or the fuel cut of in the boot but luckily these were kept to a minimum.
Amongst the big powered fords there were some seriously ridiculous powered cars like a pair of fiat 127’s which had been turned into funny cars and one had to have a wheelie bar fitted as it came up in the air very easily!! Also a few skylines turned up to give everyone a run and were wiping the floor with everyone till a normal looking mark 2 escort pulled a 10.32 second ¼ mile out of the hat which surprised everyone and had the whole crowd whooping with excitement.
The day was full of highlights like a Ferrari just beating a Ford F150 pick up truck by only 0.20 of a second!!! To which the Ferrari driver got heckled as he parked his motor up rather red faced LOL
By the end of the day we was all rather red faced (from the sun) and had very numb bums from the plastic seats in the grandstand but had a big smile from all the action that had gone on and how good it was top notch ! Roll on the summer.
