Modified Nationals 2004 @ Billing Aquadrome Northampton
Modified Nationals was the first camping show / event of the year for us, and what cracking weather we had. Following the borocruisers meet we previously attended a few months before the guys on Peterborough’s finest forum asked myself and Paula to come along to the event and put the Skyline on their stand, which of course I jumped at.
After a long drive to Northampton and after much trouble with the directions (damn multimap is getting worse) we finally arrived at Billing Aquadrome ready for the Modified Nationals show of 2004. We were directed towards a specified camping area, where there was already thousands of modified cars being cleaned and shined up awaiting the main show of the next day, well certainly by the most enthusiastic people, everyone else was getting dressed up in their school uniforms ready for the school disco later on in the evening.
Seeing this amount of modified cars, we thought there is absolutely no way we were going to find our fellow borocruisers, we approached a rather large crow of rabble dressed up in all sorts of dodgy outfits, on trying to creep past them thinking what a bunch of nutters, I distinctly heard my name shouted out "Mr Skyline" ... on turning to see who shouted this I was almost horrified to see it was a young lady in the middle of the rowdy bunch of strangely dressed weirdo’s .... yes this was the crowd of people we had vouched to spend our weekend with ... "Oh God Help Me" I thought through my smile.
After being directed where to park the Liner, we promptly whipped out the tent and erected it in quick sharp fashion (well I did !) and preceded to whip on the outfit for the night ... neither Paula or myself could match the insanity of the Borocruisers, but Paula did look rather sexy in her school uniform wearing innocent bunches in her hair, innocent my backside !!!
After a mad night of drunkenness and dancing in the various evening entertainment tents, the morning had come and we realised that this was going to be a great show, the mad bunch of weirdos (otherwise known as the Borocruisers) we found to be a great laugh and in actual fact pretty sane and not weird at all, just goes to show never judge a book by it's cover.
We all made our way across to the show field, Billing Aquadrome is a vast area so there was plenty of space within all the camping areas for the Modified Nationals show to take place safely. On parking up (after a lot of moving forward and backwards to get the cars lined up nicely) out we jumped and off we went to polish the Skyline, as the lengthy Journey to Northampton hadn’t done any favours to the car in the keeping it clean department. So after battling with the fly guts and mud up the sides, the car was soon shining in the beautiful sunshine of the day, this was to set the trend for the rest of the weekend.
The show was packed with an immense and wide range of cars from Awesome Skylines, Evo’s and Supra’s to some pretty chav Nova’s, Corsa’s and Peugeot’s but like most car shows, they have become the norm that we grin and bear as enthusiasts.
There was plenty of entertainment and trade stands at the show, I even had a set of "Mr Skyline" show plates built up for when I am at the shows, rather than having to take my number plates off, which to be honest got a bit tedious.
The second night of the show was just as good if not better, though I had to go a little easy on drinking as I would be driving straight to Redline Rumble at Santa Pod up the road directly from Billing Aquadrome first thing in the morning.
