Redline Rumble 2006 Show Report

Well, I woke up Sunday morning, hoping for some good weather for the show, but I was faced with a gloomy overcast sky and drizzle! Id spent the best part of Saturday cleaning my car, but prepared for it getting dirty on the journey up to the Pod.

Arrived at 9:30, and straightaway began looking out for the GnM camp. Soon found it, as Sarah’s (minimadgirl) pink mini tends to stick out a bit! ? Met up with Sarah, Andy (mad mechanic), Lea and a few others, and then made our way to our stand.

Our spot wasn’t ideal, but it was better than some, who had stands on the grass around the camping area, which was away from the main show. As soon as id parked up, me and Michelle began to clean my car again. 2 hours later, we were finished, and my car was gleaming once again! By this time, Alanna in her tasty 206 GTi had arrived with her friend.

After noshing on a bit of breakfast, we went for a mooch round, to check out some of the show and take some pictures. There were a lot of new cars this year, it seems people have been very busy over the winter! Unfortunately, the weather mean that a lot of the colours didn’t really sing, due to the bad light. Never mind, they still looked good. Went and had a look at the drifting displays, which was pretty good. It seems the drifting scene is getting bigger every year, and people’s skills are getting better and better!

The ¼ mile racing was delayed for quite a while, due to them having to resurface a stretch of it, which was tedious. However, me and Chelle saw this as a good excuse to go get a good spot on the bank for when it did start. When it eventually got going, immediately some impressive times were being put down, despite the damp conditions! A number were breaking below the magical 10 second mark, which was brilliant to watch, and shows how much the tuning side of things is progressing. The days of 15-16 second cars being referred to as ‘quick’ are numbered! Lol!

After an hour or so, we went and met Rick (Mr Skyline), Paula (vwmadgirl), Lea, Andy and Redsi in the food court. Had a cup of naff tea, and then went on a simulator ride. I received a fair ear bashing by Lea because she couldn’t see the screen! Lol!

We all then went for another mooch round, and I took some more pictures. Stopped and watched a showgirl display at the Redline stand, and had a chuckle at the amount of blokes who were desperately trying to get a picky or video of them!

By this time, it was about 4pm, and things were starting to wind down, with God of the pod entering its final rounds, we made our way back to the stand. We decided to move over the camping area, but not before having a little laugh at Sarah wrestling with her non power steering! Fat tyres, no power steering, and a very tight space to turn around in, results in quite a work out!!

We stopped at the camping area for a bit, and discussed the day we’d had. Sarah managed to bag a trophy for her Mini, which was cool! Finally, at about 4.30 ish, we went our separate ways.

Overall, it was a great day, despite the weather. Was great to meet everyone at last, including the little dude Kyler! ? Was a shame that more people couldn’t have made it, but never the less, me and Michelle still had a good time! We cannot wait for the next one! ?
