Trax 2006 Show at Silverstone Circuit
The long awaited day had arrived, I had been looking forward to going to trax since my first visit there last year.It was a great day out last year with lots of track action, nice cars, girls and the weather was scorching. All week the weather reports had said that Sunday was going to be nice, but as saturday was such a miserable.wet and windy day,i wasn't holding out much hope. How wrong was I!
I was up at 5.30 sunday morning so i could at least give my car a good clean and make it look respectable for the biggest track day of the year.As it turns out,it was a total waste of time because by the time i'd driven to Wellingborough to pick my mate Billy up,it was dirty again, wet roads all the way there just ruined the shine,oh well!
3 miles outside Northampton on the approach, the roads were bone dry, typical. As we were leaving Northampton and picking up the A43,we started to pick up lots of nice, shiney cars all heading the same way, looked like it was guna be massive.Every roundabout we got to more and more cars linked up.From saxo's to Evo's,liners to Bm's,you name it,they were there and all looking equally as eager as we were to get there.I'm pleased to say there was no stupid monkey business going on and everyone was polite and drove with respect,so fair play to everyone for that.
As we passed the garage on the A43 just before the Silverstone junction all you could see was cars meeting up,getting ready to get in convoy to arrive at the circuit. It was a great sight,8.00 am on a sunny Sunday morning, cars everywhere and everyone with a huge grin on thier face.
I don't know, but i'm guessing about a mile from the turning,we joined the back of a very long que and it was travelling at a snails pace.To my suprise, people who were obviously going to the event drove straight by,only to see them rudely push into the que a bit further up,why do people do that?
We eventually got into the track around 9.00 and it was ram packed with people and cars, they were everywhere,i was like a kid in a candy shop looking left and right with cars done up to the nines and money thrown at them like there's no tomorrow.I rang KTM who very kindly managed to get me a stand pass for the sox-japoc stand(thanks Katie)
We were parked up at the far end of the stands very close to where the 0-60 run was happening which was cool as we managed to get really nice bacon roll as soon as we got out of the car due to the food vans within sniffing distance.
Once we had eaten we had a bit of a walk around and still couldn't get my head round just how big an event this was.I met kaplaybunny as she parked up on one of the ford stands and her little ka looked great,i had wonder around the MLR stand which was massive and had some really nice Evo's on,then we made our way down to meet some more mates who had just arrived on the Fto stand, which again, like last year was full with some great cars.
Now we had all met up,we decided to have a walk down to all the trade stands to see what was on offer. The Fuel trailer was a really well turned out affair with a sound system pumping tunes out like it was a rave(blow your whistles n horns).Down in the main trader area you had Redline who last year had girls, cars and giveaways all day, they also had music kicking out to make sure everyone was getting the vibe and in the mood, looks like they were all having a top time so well done to all who put the effort in,you did great.
Fast car had a massive staged area with DJ's,MC's and girls, girls, girls,oh yeah and even some break dancers.Again well done to all of them as they made a real good atmosphere everytime they had a show on stage. They had some amazing cars to the left of the stand,Gems pink streetka was among the real nice R5,Astra and they all must get the respect they are due,10/10 guy's
Whilst walking round, time now about 10.00 the sun was starting to break through and let its rays out(thank you) I cant count how many very sexy, skantily clad girls came up to us and handed us flyers or leaflets for thier companies or clubs, well worth a pocket full of paper if you ask me.Walking through the trade arena was just mind boggling with all the spectacular cars on show, there was a snakeskin covered pug which was mental,a range rover with 24" chrome wheels on which looked crazy,2 or 3 liners which just made me wana own 'em,the Simon Norris Evo was there with its hood off allowing everyone to see its amazing power plant,i heard it did 0-60 in 2.89 seconds, but i didnt actually see it for myself(wish i had) There was a couple of mad cars with full hydraulics fitted, seeing the amount of batteries in the boot,i cant believe these things can actually move.
We decided that it was time to watch some of the track action so made our way to the side of the circuit, which again was really busy and everyone was in good spirits so the atmosphere felt really good. Some of the guy's and girls out on the track really were putting there cars through thier paces getting quicker and quicker each time they went by.Needless to say, there were one or two spills and thrills but nothing to major that we saw.We found that being round by brooklands was a good spectator point with good corners in view.
The track action came to a stop then the D1 boys came on and put a great show on.These guy's make drifting look like its easy,so easy in fact its looks effortless.Tim Marshall in the pink 350 Sumo car is a personal fav of mine, due to the fact that i went round rockingham with him on a corporate day with work,so,well done Tim.The other guy's were equally as exciting to watch, there's a bmw 3 series tourer which i think is from europe somewhere and if you could hear this thing go,it was so loud and he threw this thing around like it was on ice, again well done mate.To be honest one of the best moments was when 1one of them slid off into the gravel track just in front of the grandstand. The driver got out of his car, stood on the roof and raised his arms and the whole crowd let out a cheer, but as he turned round to get off,he slipped and fell, nice on fella, top entertaiment. As they brought the first session of the drifting to an end,we made our way back towards the trade area to see what was going on.
The Fuel trailer had some of the top modded cars at the show driving up onto thier stand and had them revolving on a massive turntable in front of the crowd and had the crowd cheering as loud as they could to vote for the top modded car.Sorry but i didnt actually find out which one won, oops, they were all nice in thier own rights so a big shout out to all of the guy's who managed to get thier cars up there.
Making our way back towards the main car parking and club stand area's we stopped to check out the show prices on some of the stands.I do think that due to the internet and mail order the show prices dont seem as keen as they could be.In my opinion, you should be able to get a real bargain at a show,a price that you wont get anywhere else, but that doesn't seem to be the case, maybe its just me or what i was looking at.
Walking through the vast area covered by club stands,it was plain too see that people had travelled from all over the country and some from even further a field as europe.Every single person at the event,i'm sure would have had a real top day, unless like me and my mates got a little sunburnt(serves us right for using suncream)
In summary,i would say this was certainly a very well organised and turned out event. However, given the fact that Silverstone is the home of the British GP,i would have thought they could have got the cars in and out of the event with a bit less fuss.
I will definately be visiting Trax again next year and if you've never been, make sure you dont miss it.I met some old friends, new friends, saw some amazing cars, watched some great track action, experienced some really cool events but on by some of the top names in car modding and performance in the country and felt when i left that the day was all i wanted it to be.As you'll see there are some foto's i took during the day,166 in total, some better than others, but all will hold very fond memories for me of Trax 2006.
Hopefully we will all be there in 2007 with GnM,so I hope too see all of you there.
