Ultimate Street Car @ Santa Pod, Northampton 6-8th August 2004
We arrived at USC at around 3pm and after waiting for sometime at the gates of Santa Pod, Northampton for Tony from Borocruisers to meet us and give us our stand pass we made our way to the Borocruisers stand which was our home for the weekend.
As soon as we got to the stand after a VERY slow drive through the massive crowds of people we dumped our stuff in one of the guys tent and I rushed to to the signing on office to go get my tickets to get a few runs in before the day finished.
After I got my tickets we browsed around the stands to find some Octane Booster and after some looking around we finally managed to find some. The day was Scorching hot and I felt I needed to pull every trick out of the bag to get any kind of respectable times as Turboed cars really don’t like heat. So along with my new decat pipe and the Octane booster which went straight in I took off the rear blades from my spoiler in order to reduce any drag I was getting.
Now fully armed up I proceeded to the end of the queue, and boy was it a queue, my first run I was up against a Renault 5 GT Turbo, which looked like it was quite modified with no seats in the back a roll cage etc and gauges coming out of it’s ears. Surprisingly I managed to blow it away by a full two seconds which was a great start to the day, even though my time was slower than my previous efforts on cooler days, I was only hitting 0.7 bar when I should have been hitting more like 1 bar.
After the days racing we went back to camp and after a bit of shuffling around we managed to set up our tent and get ourselves sorted out, including waiting for about an hour to shower. We walked about in the evening to see what was happening and there seemed to be a fair bit. We ended up in the pit area, after sneaking through the fencing with our friends Fast and Furious from Hitchin where we had a few drinks and had a bbq, before heading back to camp being ready for bed.
The Borocruiser’s (pyromaniacs that they are) managed to keep us awake most of the night as they were setting fire to god knows what right next to our camp. I guess giving them a flame show with the Skyline earlier in the night perhaps wasn’t my most inspirational idea.
The following day was just as hot and the liner still wasn’t having it, so I decided that I needed more air flow straight into the induction kit, so being the bright spark I am decided it would be easy enough to remove one of my lights and the grill, oh it sounded easy in practise lol. Eventually I managed to get the light out dirty bloody hands later (you know you’ve done a good job when you draw blood).
I managed to get the first run in where I raced an MR2 which of course I showed who was boss, then I decided I was fed up of lining up (remember those queues they were no better the second day) so I could see Paula was eager to get out there and do her stuff, so to her surprise and delight I handed the keys for the Skyline to her and said "off you go", I didn’t need to repeat myself she was gone in a jiffy lol. She had two great runs her first against aType R Civic with another girl driving and she definitely showed her who was boss then a second run against a Cossie which proved too much for her.
All in all the show was a good event with plenty to do GLORIOUS weather, the only downside was all the queuing we had to do but hey we’re English we’re used to doing that, big thanks to Borocruisers for having us along, a top class weekend as per usual with these guys.
